About
This retreat is an invitation to step away from the noise and listen deeply to find the wisdom within. Surrounded by nature, you’ll have the opportunity to wander and breathe. Together, we’ll explore the depths of our inner worlds through creativity, mindful listening, heartfelt conversations, local culture, history, music and local arts.
You’ll have an opportunity to engage your hands in pottery, allowing the clay to shape your intentions and bring your inner light into form — it will be a tangible reminder of your capacity to create and transform. We’ll cook, eat authentic local dishes and learn the art of traditional Romanian cuisines that nourish not just the body but the heart.
We will have a visit to a nearby monastery that will offer a glimpse into timeless spiritual traditions of Romania - inviting us to reflect and find stillness amid sacred silence. Our evenings will bring us together around campfires under the stars.

Chira Pottery is a family-run ceramic workshop in the village of Carbunari, Maramureș, where master potters Vasile and Ica Chira continue a tradition passed down through generations. Combining traditional craftsmanship with their own artistic vision, they create hand-made ceramic objects inspired by the symbols, motifs, and cultural heritage of Maramureș. Visitors to the workshop can observe the pottery-making process, learn about local ceramic traditions, and take part in hands-on pottery experiences, making it a unique opportunity to connect with one of the region’s living crafts and creative traditions.
Florean Museum is one of Romania’s most remarkable private art museums, bringing together contemporary art, monumental sculpture, and landscape in a unique open-air setting.
Merry Cemetery is one of Romania’s most distinctive cultural landmarks, renowned for its brightly painted wooden crosses and humorous, poetic epitaphs that celebrate the lives of those buried there. Created in the 1930s by local folk artist Stan Ioan Pătraș, the cemetery reflects a uniquely Maramureșean perspective on life and death—one that embraces memory, storytelling, and the continuity of community with honesty, warmth, and even gentle humour. Through its vivid colours, folk-art carvings, and personal narratives, the cemetery offers a remarkable insight into local traditions, values, and the enduring human desire to be remembered.
Stan Ioan Pătraș Memorial House offers an intimate glimpse into the life and work of the folk artist who created the famous Merry Cemetery. Located just a short walk from the cemetery, the museum preserves Pătraș’s traditional Maramureș home, workshop, personal belongings, wood carvings, painted objects, photographs, and original tools. More than a museum, the tiny house reveals the cultural roots, craftsmanship, and human story behind one of Romania’s most remarkable expressions of folk art.
Bârsana Monastery is one of the most beautiful and visited monastic complexes in Romania, renowned for its striking wooden architecture and peaceful setting in the Iza Valley. Re-established in the 1990s on the site of an older monastic tradition dating back centuries, the monastery combines traditional Maramureș craftsmanship with spiritual devotion, featuring intricately carved wooden buildings, flower-filled gardens, and spaces for prayer and reflection. Surrounded by hills and forests, Bârsana offers visitors an opportunity to experience the region’s rich religious heritage, architectural traditions, and atmosphere of tranquillity and contemplation.
Păstrăvăria Mara is a renowned trout farm and traditional restaurant nestled in the picturesque Mara Valley, one of the most scenic areas of Maramureș. Known for its fresh trout raised in crystal-clear mountain waters, the restaurant offers guests an authentic taste of local cuisine, combining regional recipes, seasonal ingredients, and warm Maramureș hospitality. Surrounded by forests, streams, and rolling hills, Păstrăvăria Mara provides a relaxed setting where visitors can enjoy traditional food while experiencing the natural beauty and rural character of the region.
